There are a vast number of hotels in Dhaka City and some of the hotels are found on the internet. There are luxury hotels for the rich and glamourus. As Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh it comes as no surprise that luxury hotels are found here. Although most people live in poverty there are also super rich people in Dhaka City and Bangladesh.
However a more budgeted approach to hotels is also available, as the choice of hotels also includes 4 and 3-star accommodations. This makes hotel stay in Dhaka affordable for most people from the developed part of the world.

Planning a journey is always best as hotels may be fully bucked if you start to search when you have arrived. It is wise to search on the internet for hotels in Dhaka prior to your visit to ensure you get accommodated in a hotel which fits your needs for business meetings, conventions and conferences.
Quality Hotels
If you can get past the name, the Green Goose is a real alternative for visitors wanting to stay in Dhaka. It is within walking distance of the two commercial areas and close to some of the best restaurants in Dhaka, yet it is hidden away along a quiet street opposite the residence of Medicine Frontiers.
The guest house itself has just undergone extensive renovation. I did not see it before, but what has emerged now is a smart, small hotel with excellent fittings and a very helpful and friendly staff. There are only about 16 rooms, and about half of these are self-contained suites with a small kitchen with a stove, sink, microwave oven, and refrigerator. My room had a glass-top dining table and four chairs, a two-seater lounge and two matching armchairs, and a coffee table. The bedroom was very spacious, with a queen-size bed, huge desk, wardrobe, couple of cabinets, and TV. Everything was clean and brand-new. Both the living room and the bedroom were air-conditioned, with individual controls.
The bathroom was off the bedroom. This was fairly small, but there was still room for a Western-style toilet, a basin with a huge bench top, and a full-size tub with an overhead and hand-held shower. While the bathroom was not air-conditioned directly, there was an efficient exhaust fan and two powerful lights that provided excellent illumination so you could properly see yourself in the large mirror.
The Green Goose is very popular with long-term guests. The restaurant is open all day. Breakfast is served was included in the room charge and consisted of fruit, juice, toast and jam, a choice of eggs, and tea or coffee. The menu for other meals was a mix of Chinese, Bangladeshi, Japanese and Western dishes. Everything on the menu was extreemly cheap.
There was a small library with some usefull books, booklets and brochures and maps serving as a guide to business and tourist destinations in Dhaka. The lobby usually had some Western magazines and newspapers as well as the TV had BBC and CNN plus a wide range of other channels. This is nice if you want to know what happens around the world regardelss of you being on a vacation or business trip. Best of all, the bedroom had a broadband Internet connection that provided the best email communication I found in the whole country.
Price: From US$50 per night
The Sheraton was the first international hotel in Dhaka and many say in some ways it is still the best. It competes head-on with the Pan Pacific and the two properties are located within a kilometer or so of each other. I must say that I felt very welcome here but that may have been partly due to the fact that I had a vague past connection with the manager and his wife.
The hotel has 233 rooms and suites, all with the normal 5-star facilities. They are furnished in a fairly standard way but there are a few local touches like potted palms and flowers in the room. The staff is friendly and service is at a high level on most occasions, however, anything out of the ordinary will throw many of the junior staff. Senior management seemed to be very willing to help.
Except for the glass-domed ceiling in the reception area, the other public areas and facilities are not as grand here as at the Pan Pacific but they have a more intimate charm. The swimming pool is certainly much smaller and there is little sitting area but on the positive side it rarely had more than a handful of other swimmers. There is a squash court, a tennis court and a health club with gymnasium, Jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. The business centre will meet most travelers needs.
As with most Sheraton Hotels, there is an Executive Club floor which provides a business class level of service. I did not experience this area but it is said to offer distinguished services in an ambience of refined sophistication. Sounds impressive? The floor has its own private lounge for breakfast and cocktails.
I am not an expert on the dining opportunities having only taken lunch in one of the restaurants. This was in the restaurant near the pool where they operate a buffet, but as I am not a large lunch eater, I just opted for a soup and rice dish and was able to pay accordingly. Both were good. It is difficult to get a beer in most places around Bangladesh so the Sheraton bar was a welcome find. Under the circumstances the cost at around US$4 for an imported beverage seemed reasonable.
The hotel is close to green Ramna Park for those interested in a stroll though tropical vegetation or a ride on the boating lake. Suhrawardi Park, which is where the Bangladeshi Declaration of Independence took place, and Dhaka University are also within walking distance. There are good shopping opportunities in New Elephant Road and Eastern plaza, and you can reach these by rickshaw.
